History of Alzheimer’s Disease

چکیده
Korea is a rapidly aging society, which is currently unprecedented in the world. Degree of aging in society can be divided into an aging society (7%), aged society (14%) and super-aged society (21%) based on the proportion of people aged 65 years or older. Moreover, Korea is projected to enter a super-aged society in the next 10 years because this aging phenomenon was dramatically intensified, following the aging population already established in 2000 (Statistics Korea, Results of specific funeral population estimation, 2005. 1). Such a trend in Korea can be considered extraordinarily steep, as compared to 154 years in France, 97 years in UK, 94 years in USA, and 36 years in Japan, which is close to our country. As our society is rapidly aging, the number of patients with dementia shows a significant increasing trend and the new dementia patients appear at a rate of five people per hour. The direct medical expense burden from the disease of dementia itself, and accompanying socioeconomic indirect burden are also exponentially increasing. To reduce direct and indirect expenses burden throughout society, as well as to improve an individual patient’s quality of life, early diagnosis of dementia, effective treatment, and continuous follow-up management need to be addressed urgently. Delay in the onset of dementia by 2 years owing to appropriate treatment would diminish the prevalence of dementia by approximately 20%.1 Dementia could be likened to a philosophical death, as opposed to biological death. Forgetting personal life history and difficulty in retaining even fragmentary reminiscences of life, could result in a great deal of pain to those who share a collective memory of the past. Biophysical properties of single potassium channel in the brain mitochondrial inner membrane of male rat with Alzheimer’s disease
Introduction: Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder, characterized by impairment of memory and changes in behavior and personality. Recent evidence suggests that mitochondrial channels play important roles in memory disorders. Accordingly, the biophysical properties of a single potassium channel were investigated in the brain mitochondrial inner membrane of rat with...

Methodology: In this project, people older than 60 years who lived in Tehran were investigated. A total of 99 literate persons were enrolled in the study, and 4 questionnaires of functional assessment staging tool (FAST), abbreviated mental test s...
متن کاملMechanisms of memory loss in Aβ and tau mouse models
Although memory loss is the central symptom of Alzheimer’s disease, the pathophysiological mechanisms leading to dementia are poorly understood. It is difficult to answer this issue with studies in humans and impossible in cultured cells. Therefore animal models are needed to elucidate the molecular mechanisms leading to dementia. The chief neuropathological changes during Alzheimer’s disease, ...
متن کاملAssessing the Effects of Alzheimer’s disease on EEG Signals Using the Entropy Measure: a Meta-Analysis
Introduction and Aims: Alzheimer’s disease is the most prevalent neurodegenerative disorder and a type of dementia. 80% of dementia in older adults is because of Alzheimer’s disease. According to multiple research articles, Alzheimer's has several changes in EEG signals such as slowing of rhythms, reduction in complexity and reduction in functional associations, and disordered functional commun...
متن کاملIdentification of Genetic Polymorphism Interactions in Sporadic Alzheimer’s Disease Using Logic Regression
Objectives: Genetic polymorphism interactions are among the important factors in affliction with complex diseases like Alzheimer’s disease. The important goal of genetic association studies is to identify a combination of polymorphisms and measure their importance in increasing the risk of occurrence of such diseases. In this study, feature selection approach of logic regression was used to ide...
